This article is a copy of an email to surgeries 21 July 2025:
SystmOne eDSM settings reminder
((Name)),
You are receiving this email because you are listed as a practice manager or PCN digital lead in our records, or you attended the training event today hosted by the ‘East of England Child Health Information Service and Community/School Aged Immunisation Service’.
The event covered optional settings within SystmOne’s Enhanced Data Sharing Model (eDSM) and how these impact access to health records.
Action
Please check the following screen in SystmOne:
Setup > Users & Policy > Share In Rules
✅ If set to: ‘No Organisations Require Verification’ – no action is required; you may disregard this email.
⚠️ If set to: Any other option – please read on.
Background/Guidance
It remains the recommendation of the ICB Clinical Systems team and Governance team that all SystmOne GP practices within Suffolk and North East Essex ICB are configured with setting:
‘No Organisations Require Verification’
This recommendation is unchanged since the introduction of these options in 2017 and was most-recently discussed at the April SystmOne User Group meeting following a recent support request.
Other organisation-wide settings create barriers to patient record sharing and therefore introduce significant ongoing workload and clinical risk for GP surgeries and patients.
Patient-specific verification (Optional use)
While we do not recommend using verification settings organisation-wide, they may be helpful for a small number of patients where this additional step may avoid them opting out of sharing altogether.
We feel the settings should only be used:
- On a patient-specific basis
- Following an informed decision from the patient
- With a robust process and ongoing communication with the patient to avoid unintentional care impacts
